How does artificial intelligence work?
- Artificial intelligence uses the machine learning to imitate human intelligence. The computer must learn how to respond to specific actions, using algorithms and historical data to create a slope model.
- The slope models will then start making predictions (like scoring or something).
- AI (artificial intelligence) can do much more than that, but these are the typical uses and functions of marketing. And while it may seem that machines are ready to rise and seize power, humans still need to do a lot of work.
- Essentially, we use AI to save time — adding people to email automation and letting the AI do the lot of the work while we work on other tasks.
How did artificial intelligence originate?
At least since the first century BC, humans have been fascinated by the possibility of creating machines that mimic the human brain. In the modern era, the term artificial intelligence was coined by John McCarthy in 1955. In 1956, McCarthy and the others organized a conference called The Dartmouth Summer Research Project on the Artificial Intelligence. This beginning led to the creation of the machine learning, deep learning, predictive analytics, and now meta-analytics. It also gave rise to a new field of study, data science.
Why is artificial intelligence critical?
Today, the amount of data generated by the humans and machines far outstrips humans’ ability to ingest, interpret, and make complex decisions based on that data. Artificial intelligence forms the basis of all computer learning and is the future of all complex decision-making processes.
For example, most humans can tell how not to lose in tic-tac-toe (noughts and crosses), although there are the 255,168 unique moves, of which 46,080 end in the draw. Fewer people will be considered great checkers champions, with over 500 x 1018, or 500 quintillion different possible moves. Computers are very efficient at calculating these combinations and permutations to make the best decision. Artificial intelligence (and its logical development of machine learning) and deep learning are the foundational futures of business decision-making.
Artificial intelligence use cases
AI applications can be seen in the everyday scenarios such as fraud detection in financial services, retail purchase expectations, and the online customer support interactions.
Here are just the few examples:
The financial services industry uses the artificial intelligence in two ways. First, the initial assessment of credit applications uses artificial intelligence to understand creditworthiness. More advanced artificial intelligence engines monitor and detect fraudulent payment card transactions in real-time.
Virtual Customer Assistance (VCA)
Call centers use the VCAs to predict and respond to customer inquiries outside human interaction. For example, voice recognition and simulated human dialogue are the first interaction points in a customer service query. Then, high-level questions are forwarded to the human.
When someone initiates a dialogue on a web page via a chatbot, the person often interacts with a computer running a specialized AI. If the chatbot cannot interpret or address the question, the human steps in to communicate directly with the person. These non-explanatory states are fed into a machine learning computation system to improve the application of AI to future interactions.
Advances in artificial intelligence for applications such as natural language processing (NLP) and computer vision (CV) are helping industries such as financial services, healthcare, and automobiles accelerate innovation, improve customer experience, and the reduce costs.
Gartner estimates that up to the 70% of people will interact with conversational AI platforms daily by 2022. NLP and CV provide the valuable link between the humans and robots: NLP helps computer programs understand human speech.
